CoolLED pE-100

The pE-100 series is a family of single-wavelength fluorescence LED illumination systems, which are compact and simple to use

Systems can be specified at any one of 20 different LED wavelengths, and are ideal for routine clinical screening, electrophysiology or basic research applications. Operation is by a remote manual control pod with instant on/off and irradiance control from 0-100%, with remote control available via a TTL trigger.

Additional information

The pE-100 system is designed for fluorescence applications requiring a single LED excitation wavelength. It is perfect for clinical applications such as routine screening (e.g. using Auramine for Tuberculosis), for research applications requiring precise irradiance control and fast-switching, or for electrophysiology applications where light has to be delivered to a specific location. The user can select from 20 different LED wavelengths, ranging from the near-UV at 365 nm to the near-IR at 770 nm. For increased irradiance, a direct fit version is also available, which fits directly to the microscope via a specified adaptor.

Configurations

There are three standard pE-100 configuration options:

Direct-fit (pE-100) for connecting to a microscope by selecting from a range of microscope adaptors which covers all current and most older models. A simple once only adjustment will allow optimisation to the optical path of the microscope.

Liquid Light Guide (pE-100light guide) with a fixed 3mm diameter, liquid light guide

Fiber (pE-100fiber) with an SMA connection for accepting multimode fibers. The pE-100fiber has been designed with efficient coupling into a wide range of multimode fibers. The pE-100fiber also includes excitation filter holders.

Combining pE-100s:

Direct fit configuration pE-100 units can be combined using the pE-Combiner for applications requiring a second LED wavelength with independent control and triggering.

Liquid light guide or multimode fiber using a fixed two wavelength configuration can be specified. Two pE-100 Light Sources are combined, providing independent control and triggering.

CoolLED pE-Fiber Illumination

CoolLED's pE-100/F series LED illumination is designed for fiber delivery of specific wavelengths of light.

Dual Wavelength Applications : where two wavelengths are required, two pE-100/F units are used with the LED light combined into a single fiber output. An appropriate dichroic mirror will be provided too.

The user can select from any of CoolLED's 20 LED wavelengths and specify at time of order. The LED system has been designed for efficient coupling into a wide range of multimode fibers. Provision has been made for the user to accommodate optical filtering (e.g. excitation) in the optical path before light enters the fiber, should this be desired. Operation is from a separate control pod.

Fibers listed below will be supplied 2m long and use SMA-SMA connection or SMA-Cleaved.

pE-Combiner

CoolLED LED 2 Dual Wavelength LED System

Perfect for dual staining applications or where fast switching between wavelengths is desirable.

Combiner

The pE-Combiner offers the ability to use two pE-100s for dual staining applications. A number of pE-Combiners can be used to support multiple LED wavelengths on the microscope. The pE-combiner can be purchased as a package with defined pE-100 LED sources (as an LED2 system)or purchased separately as requirements change or increase.

Combiner-EF

The pE-Combiner EF is very similar to the standard PE combiner but contains additional slots to accept excitation filters. This will allow you to narrow the excitation wavelength of the LED if required in your experiment.

Light guides

The LED3 and LED 4 systems use liquid light-guides to deliver the LED light from the Main Unit to the collimator fitted on the microscope. Systems are available with either 1m or 3m light-guides. The longer light guides are recommended if there is limited space around the microscope or to keep heat, vibration or electro-magnetic radiation away from samples, for example when doing electrophysiology experiments.

Microscope adapters

These LED illumination products are intended for use on all microscopes. Scientifica product specialists identify the correct fitting for your make and model of microscope. Where possible, a fitting will be provided for any specified microscope.

Breakout box

The Breakout Box is a simple connection box which allows you to control the LED 3 or LED4 illumination systems using TTL signals. These signals are common to and from cameras, control boxes, PC interface cards and A to D boards. The time from an input signal going high to LED at full intensity is 300 microseconds.

The Breakout Box connects to the 15-way connector on the back of the pE-1 and pE-2. The signals are brought to BNC coaxial connectors which can be used with standard BNC to BNC cables.
