Installation Guidelines: Electrophysiology rigs
Anti-Vibration Table (If not Provided by Scientifica)- must have metric or imperial tapped holes. For un-tapped/smooth topped tables a breadboard will be required- to be supplied by customer if not on Scientifica quotation.
- The table should be installed, floated and positioned with at least 40cm of walking space on 3 of its sides.
- A complete Scientifica System has many control units and racks that require independent power sockets. We recommend having at least 20 sockets for one system.
- Most of the equipment is 19’’ rack mountable, however the racks are not provided by Scientifica as a standard and a solution will have to be provided by the customer.
- Scientifica does not provide a desk or working area to place the monitor/workstation, this must be provided by the customer.
- The workstation provided need access to the network via Ethernet (no Wifi solution is provided). This is required for instance for software activation or for remote technical support.
- A complete Scientifica systems requires multiple USB ports; Scientifica recommends that a workstation with 20 USB ports is provided. An externally powered USB hub may be used.
Installation Guidelines: Multiphoton Systems
Please note that Scientifica multiphoton systems use a Class 4 laser system and as such requires adequate laser safety measures to be taken during installation and use of the system. It is the end user’s responsibility to ensure appropriate laser safety controls are applied and that all users are laser safety trained. Access to the designated enclosed installation area must be restricted to suitably qualified personnel wearing appropriate eye protection. Scientifica takes no responsibility for any injury or damage that results from a lack of appropriate laser safety controls during installation, training, or use of the system. Scientifica does not offer laser safety training, nor can we advise on local laser safety requirements. Controls and measures on site may include but are not limited to:
- Appropriate laser safety eye wear
- Appropriate laser safety signage
- Appropriate risk assessments and standard operating procedures
- A designated laser safe environment for commissioning and use of the system

- While the engineers performing installations are laser trained and can provide guidance on safe use of the lasers required for the equipment, the training sessions they provide are not replacing the Health and Safety requirements from the local regulations.
- Your system may require some third party software licences (e.g. National Instrument, Matlab etc.) active at the time of installation that are not provided by Scientifica. Please refer to your quotation where the requirements are specified, or contact your representative for further information.

Installation Guides: LASU
Please note that LASU (Laser Applied Stimulation and Uncaging) is a Class 3b laser system and as such requires adequate laser safety measures to be taken during installation and use of the system. It is the end user’s responsibility to ensure appropriate laser safety controls are applied and that all users are laser safety trained. Installation requires initial alignment of lasers without reflection guards in place, meaning that access to the designated enclosed installation area must be restricted to suitably qualified personnel wearing appropriate eye protection. Scientifica takes no responsibility for any injury or damage that results from a lack of appropriate laser safety controls during installation, training, or use of the system. Lab View licences will need to be provided by the End user and be available for pre installation at Scientifica, this allows a successful pre-installation and a smooth installation at the customer lab. For the LASU executable software version the only licence required is: Lab view runtime (free), Vision Development Module Run-Time License for Windows (778044-35).
For optional access to the full LASU software code (not recommended for a standard usage), Lab view full (776670-35) and NI vision development module (777859- 35) are required.
