Introduction
The Neural Circuits for Movement Laboratory (NCM), based within the Department of Neuromuscular Diseases, focuses on investigating, using animal models, the physiology and pathophysiology of neural circuits controlling movement. A wide variety of quantitative techniques are used, including anatomical, physiological, and behavioural approaches. There are several laboratory areas, including a general and histology laboratory, physiology laboratories, a multiphoton microscopy laboratory, and a confocal microscopy/image analysis laboratory. Members of the group publish regularly in scientific journals and present their work at national and international conferences.
Job description
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Laboratory Manager to join the lab and act as the main point of contact for the NCM laboratory matters, responsible for organising the day-to-day running of the laboratory, effectively managing the purchase of consumables and animals to ensure that there is no interruption in research projects and overseeing the lab’s equipment. You’ll also be involved with mouse breeding, writing and maintaining lab-related documentation, training and inducting NCM staff and students, and ensuring good health and safety and laboratory practice.
The post is available from 01 October 2023 and funded by Wellcome for three years in the first instance.

The candidate
You will have a degree (minimum 2:1) in Life Sciences or a related discipline, experience of best practice laboratory management, and of working with laboratory rodents. You be organised and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving abilities, and good knowledge of mouse genetics.
This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
