The Christoffel Lab recently opened at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill within the Behavioural and Integrative Neuroscience program. I am are seeking applications from talented scientists to collaborate with me as a post-doctoral trainee. The lab is interested in understanding the neural circuit mechanisms of the motivational processes underlying reward-reward related behaviours using molecular, genetic and viral engineering approaches, optogenetics, imaging, electrophysiology, and behaviour analysis.
Ideally, applicants should have evidence of scientific accomplish and expertise in at least one of the following areas: optogenetics and/or fibre photometry, mouse behaviour, or electrophysiology, Experience with programming, neuroanatomy and circuit tracing or light sheet microscopy is highly desirable. Postdocs will work on NIH-supported lines of research in close collaboration with other lab members, as well as the Walsh lab in the Department of Pharmacology in the School of Medicine.

The overarching goals of current projects are 1) to investigate how experience-dependent plasticity in the nucleus accumbens regulates reward processing, with a focus on the consumption of palatable foods and stress modulation of food intake, 2) examine the regulatory role of neuromodulators in hedonic feeding. Fellows will have ample opportunities to develop independent research projects and to publish empirical papers on these topics.
