Job Title: Postdoctoral position in the Neuromodulation of Synaptic Circuits

Location: Genoa, Italy

Application Closing Date: January 15th 2022

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a background in cellular and circuit neuroscience for a postdoctoral position within the “Neuromodulation of Cortical and Subcortical Circuits” Research Line.

The lab applies a multiscale neuroscience approach to investigate the cellular mechanisms and fundamental principles of synaptic neuromodulation, and to resolve the spatiotemporal dynamic of behaviorally relevant neuromodulatory signals at circuit- and system level resolution.

The successful applicant will be developing a multidisciplinary research project to understand how midbrain and basal ganglia circuits respond to neuromodulators that convey internal-state (positive or negative valence) related signals to motor control regions (striatum), both in health and disease state (psychomotor and affective disorders). To this purpose, the candidate will apply neurophysiological, optogenetic and chemogenetic approaches (ex vivo and in vivo) to study how noradrenaline, serotonin- and endocannabinoid-mediated signaling interact to modulate the activity of neurons as well as the strength and plasticity of their synapses. These studies will be implemented by using state-of-the art imaging techniques (miniscope imaging and fiber photometry) to monitor neuromodulatory signals during behavioral paradigms.

Further information on the role, can be found here

The Candidate

Knowledge of neurophysiology and optogenetics, combined with viral-based approaches to deconstruct and manipulate neuronal circuits ex-vivo or in-vivo is preferred.

Previous experience with large-scale neuronal imaging in-vivo and programming (Python or MATLAB), together with signal processing expertise appropriate for the analysis of neuronal activity, will be a plus

How to Apply

Applications should include a cover letter, a CV, and the names and addresses (including e-mail addresses) of at least two referees and sent to [email protected] quoting “Postdoctoral position in the Neuromodulation of Synaptic Circuits” in the subject line".

The position will remain open until filled. Starting date flexible.
