A postdoc position in Neurophysiology, Neuroendocrinology, and Epilepsy is available in the lab of Dr. Catherine Christian at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (www.christianlab.org).
This position is for an NIH-funded project investigating the neural and pituitary mechanisms that underlie comorbid reproductive endocrine disorders in a mouse model of temporal lobe epilepsy. The lab uses a variety of approaches including patch clamp electrophysiology, EEG, stereotactic surgeries, optogenetics/chemogenetics, neuroanatomy, viral vectors, and transgenic mouse models to explore research questions at the intersection of neuroscience, physiology, and endocrinology.
For a recent paper related to this project, see Li et al., 2018 eNeuro 5:e0273-18.2018. http://www.eneuro.org/content/5/5/ENEURO.0273-18.2018
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a top-ranked research institution at the heart of an affordable, family-friendly community with a high quality of life. State-of-the-art core research facilities and collaborative opportunities are available through the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, Carver Biotechnology Center, and the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology.
A Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field is required. Candidates close to defending the dissertation will be considered. Particular preference will be given to applicants with experience in electrophysiology, optogenetics, and/or calcium/voltage imaging. The successful applicant will have evidence of research productivity as shown in at least one high-quality first-author publication, good oral and written communication skills, and will be highly motivated and self-driven.
How to Apply
To apply, please submit: (1) a cover letter describing your research interests, relevant background, and career goals; (2) current CV; and (3) contact information for 2-3 references to Dr. Catherine Christian at [email protected].
