Job title: Postdoctoral position in olfactory sensory biology
Department: Section of Neurobiology, Division of Biological Sciences
Location: San Diego, California
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Chih-Ying Su in the Section of Neurobiology, Division of Biological Sciences at University of California San Diego. Our research addresses how olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) process odor information. We are especially interested in how neuromodulation can act on ORNs to regulate responses and influence odor-guided behaviors. We also investigate how compartmentalization allows ORNs to process information through ephaptic interaction.
We use multidisciplinary approaches including electrophysiology, fly genetics, molecular biology, optogenetics, functional imaging, and behavioral assays to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms by which ORNs process information to influence behavior.
The ideal candidate will be a talented, motivated scientist with a broad interest in sensory biology, who has recently obtained their Ph.D. or expects to obtain one in the near future. Experience in electrophysiology, functional imaging and/or computational biology is preferable. Experience with molecular fly genetics would be advantageous, but not essential.
