Scientifica SliceMaster

A semi-automated electrophysiology system for concurrent or independent recordings from up to eight brain slices.

A single trained user can use the whole system increasing efficiency and throughput whilst improving statistical design and reducing animal use.

Super-smooth micromanipulators

Our PatchStar manipulators have 20 nm resolution for absolute positioning control and less than 1 µm drift in two hours for long-term experiments.

Three flexible system options

Available with two, four or eight recording sites with the ability to upgrade for extra capacity if required.

Individual visualisation

Each recording chamber integrates a camera and LED illumination system that is fully controllable and viewable from the control station.

System components

SliceMate: Temperature controlled, continuously perfused recording chamber

PatchStar micromanipulator: For positioning of the recording electrode

Camera positioning manipulator: For the positioning of a set of two cameras that display the chamber at two selectable resolutions

Programmable perfusion system (PPS): Fully automated and highly accurate perfusion system

Extracellular recording amplifier: Low-noise recordings of extracellular electric signals

High voltage stimulus isolation unit: Stimulus isolator module for application of extracellular stimulation

Audio monitor unit: Allows the user to listen to changes in charge within the recording chamber

Electrode resistance test unit: Ensures the electrodes being used are of the desired resistance

Two software controlled data acquisition systems: To select the channel displayed on the monitors and data acquisition computer

Two video and quick switch: To select the channel displayed on the monitors and data acquisition computer

Remote operator console: Consists of a joystick control unit, 2 Windows PCs and two high-resolution monitors
