New Orca Flash 4.0 sCMOS Camera

The ORCA Flash 4.0 represents a first in the new generation of sCMOS detectors emerging in the field of scientific imaging. Compared to EMCCD cameras, first generation sCMOS cameras offered many advantages, but have lost out under low-light level conditions - this no longer needs to be the case.

Improved Signal to Noise Ratio

Improved quantum efficiency along with a larger pixel size and decreased readout noise results in an impressively high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). This improved SNR competes with many EMCCD cameras (see graph below), and the Flash 4.0 offers several other exciting possibilities.

Increased Field of View

Its 4 Megapixel chip offers a field of view 2.5 x the size of most EM-CCD chips – this is ideal for experiments where detection of signal propagation over a wider field is important, or where connections between cells in tissue slices or in cultures are investigated.

Superb Resolution and Frame Rate

The 6.5um pixel size offers excellent resolution at a full frame rate of 100 frames per second and up to 25,600 frames per second with a smaller region of interest. This makes the Flash 4.0 the ideal partner choice for capturing detailed images of fast events such as high-speed calcium or voltage-sensitive dye imaging.

Value for Money

The Flash 4.0 is the ideal solution for a wide range of imaging techniques and offers new possibilities to researchers at a price that compares very well to most EMCCD cameras.
