Scientifica goes back to school for Uckfield's Brain Awareness Week activities

Scientifica are delighted to announce that we will be visiting local secondary school, Uckfield Community Technology College (UCTC), this Friday in support of Brain Awareness Week (BAW).

UCTC is looking forward to having Scientifica team member Dr Simon Bennett attend their Brain Awareness Week activities to give a talk on neuroscience.

Mr Ball, Curriculum Leader of Science, said:

"Scientifica's visit is always one that our pupils respond positively to. They appreciate the opportunity to dig deeper, beyond our syllabus, into the operation of the brain and to be challenged about its complexity and function.
"The depth of knowledge shared by the firm helps trigger a real fascination about the workings of the mind and also dispels some common myths. We really appreciate this collaboration and so do our pupils."

Simon will be discussing areas as diverse as sleeping, zombie ants and drugs. He said:

"I am really looking forward to talking to the classes at UCTC this Friday for Brain Awareness Week; I hope they bring their most awkward questions! "It is a great opportunity for the students to really dig deep into the science and develop knowledge about the different areas of the brain. It is also a great chance for us as a company to support education within our community."

Scientifica are proud to be part of the local community in Uckfield and representatives of the company always enjoy sharing their knowledge with the younger generation and boosting the interest in science careers.

BAW runs from 16th to 20th March 2015 and is a global campaign to increase public appreciation of the progress and benefits of brain research.

The annual campaign was founded by The Dana Foundation and aims to share information about neuroscience and encourage further insights by distributing research grants.
